Kids love learning...

The 90 Day Program is magical in its on right - then students have the ability to make "informed decisions" as to what they want to do from that point forward. I have a student that graduated from the 90 day program a year ago and has chosen continued education working in the event - barrel racing. Our session yesterday was spectacular in that she understood it as - next level!

It excites me when students have such a positive attitude toward learning and it motivates me - to teach more and more! For the love of learning and for the love of teaching - we go forward!! Always.

Meet Theresa

Theresa (King) Thompson is that outgoing, friendly face that everyone looks forward to meeting when they are looking to get involved and be connected with a great teacher/trainer/coach. Yes, she’s a little sassy, high spirited as a teacher, and somewhat systematic in her teaching style; she is well-known for her interest in others – individually and collectively.

She looks forward to sharing her experience and knowledge related to horses, community, and to working toward organizing, educating and promoting the core of Theresa Thompson Training SYSTEMS as founder. All the while, studying and honing in more and more on the magnitude and vastness of the “thinking and thought processes” that creates excellence in and out of the saddle.

Recognized by many, as a professional horse trainer for years, Theresa is passionate about the details or logistics behind creating great performance horses and teaching those details (logistics) to others.

Further...studies show and are available for all to view on the internet that solidifies the fact that “EI” (Emotional Intelligence) is key to success in all areas of life and Theresa is here to say, “It is KEY to success in the saddle.” Theresa Thompson Training programs bring all this together; the physical, mental and emotional for maximum results.

Theresa has raised 3 fabulous – amazing now adult children as a single mother, she has won a few saddles, qualified and shown all over the country including qualifying for the AQHA World Show…yet with the exception of her children few things have given her as much pleasure as working with and watching her students flourish after participating and obtaining her valuable – life changing programs. And, for that she is grateful.

My career started as a child and then at age 18 riding with legendary cutting horse trainer Kenneth Gaylean (and Jody Gaylean) then onto Alice Walton Cutting Horses (daughter of retail phenomenon Sam Walton founder of Wal-Mart). A truly life changing opportunity came along when working with Mr. Frank Bailey (Reining and Barrel / Barrel Futurity Horses) and I have to say – he might NOT have been famous but he darn sure was riding horses in a cutting edge way – 25 years ago.

Today when I watch famous horse trainers on RFDTV – I think “oh, my gosh – I learned all this stuff 25 years ago while working with Frank!” You find the likes…of Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson, and Craig Cameron – all talking about disengaging hips, moving shoulders, counter circles, preparing horses for stopping, transitioning horses, roll backs, 180, 360 degree turns, etc. – folks – this is stuff has been around for years yet it’s being presented in such a phenomenal way – the viewer is thinking these guys are guru horse gods – the only thing they have done is MARKET the information well – and kudos to them – it is genius! And, to be honest has kept the “horse business” alive and thriving throughout the nation.

True teachers in your life are few and far between yet you never ever forget – how that special teacher “changed your life” and that is so true for my being able to work with Frank. Frank trains horses in heaven now and I hope he hears me every single day in my prayerful thoughts; as I am passionate about leaving his and now my legacy in the hands of youth and amateur status horse enthusiast – as I go forward. And, last but not least – I worked for Mr. Murray Griggs (specializing in Western Pleasure and Trail Horses) – a 28 stall barn full of clients, AQHA horse shows every weekend – as a single mother raising 3 kids – ages 10, 11, and 12 at the time (now 28, 29, and 30). Yes, that’s right – hat’s OFF to me. I loved every minute of it but yes it was challenging for all.

In 1992 – I so called retired from the horse training business – with a focus on a “normal life” for myself and for my children. I went back to work for Dr. M. T. Morter, Jr. – the only boss I’d ever known in the “normal world”. He re-hired me back into his top-of-the-line international seminar business. Please know Dr. Morter is NO ordinary man – he is the past president of 2 colleges and author of 6 books. He developed his own technique (B.E.S. T. / Bio-energetic Synchronization Technique) that is being taught in colleges to this day – so as you can imagine what a joy it was to work for such an inspirational leader in the seminar industry. I became Dr. Morter’s right hand man so to speak coordinating a program for him which hosted clients from literally the world over…I loved my “normal life” and learned so much about energy, the power of positive thoughts, thinking and thought processes, the power of the mind, empowering others, performance coaching and more. I worked for the Morter Team for a total of 10 years and supported seminars hosting anywhere from 50-1000 people monthly. Working with Dr. Morter and the Morter Team was life changing and an inspirational asset to my life.

I left Dr. Morter’s operation with a “fire in the belly” passionate desire! I wanted to “give” what I had been “given” in the horse business and seminar business – to others! My passion today is “passing it on”! With that said, over the years I have developed Theresa Thompson Training SYSTEMS and vowed to “teach”! With the training I received working 10 years in the seminar business…plus my amazing ability as a professional horse trainer regarding “teaching” what trainers do naturally…I am ON FIRE to bring this “life changing” information to the horse industry.

Theresa Thompson Training Programs are designed for the serious, the committed, those who desire to truly have their dreams come true. They require dedication. The Foundational Program is the basis from which all information is implemented and achieved within the next 12 months. I (of course) address the physical logistics of working with horses, present extraordinary material and concepts that address the mental, emotional and the spiritual side of horses and humans, work directly with your lead trainer when applicable – co-creating unity for you and your horse!

What is a Performance Coach?

A simply way of putting it...Coaching is conversation, confidential conversation about you, your dream, everything really about riding / performing effectively. It is a professional relationship and it's for people who want MORE and won't stop until they get their desired results in the saddle. Performance Coach works to help you achieve just that...desire results.

I find this to be such a needed and worthwhile "service"; we dialogue for Self Discovery and Horse Training Technology that facilitates change and growth! Anyone can use a coach that is IF they are willing to change and GROW. My business exist out in the horse world for people who want more and want to step up and go for it!

When we gain more control over ourselves and our horse we then have more control over our performances (literally from head to toe). We provide coaching programs to competitors in the horse industry to help them achieve greater success with their performances and in life.

Coaching is all about getting long lasting sustainable RESULTS - FASTER. Coaching is about gaining perspective; it's about getting clear about what's most important to us and then taking conscious ACTION toward creating just that...

Symptoms are your outcome (last performance) but they are not the "cause" of the problem. We teach you how to address what is behind the symptom - the logistics - that it takes in the saddle to achieve the RESULTS you're looking for. The logistics entail - of course the physical, yet also the mental and emotional aspects for horse and rider as well. My Spin on...ONE of many KEYS To SUCCESS: Emotional Intelligence (Thinking. Knowledge.Wisdom.)

The professional horse industry is filled with bright, talented, would be winners with great riding skills that FAIL; fail due to a lack of ability to manage their thoughts and emotions...

Of course, there is the physical and we learn everything having to do with the horse and the human physically YET what I'm about to present is just as important as the physical!!

So here we go...A general catch phrase for the field of study that is relevant to all of us - in or out - of the saddle is something called "Emotional Intelligence" or (EI).

EI is relevant because it relates to the most important skills we use every day - no matter what we are doing. And, whether you know it or not, these skills will determine

1) how well you know yourself, and your horse
2)how well you deal with all that happens to you, and what is going on with your horse
3) how well you deal with life in general

all this is vitally important to your success in life AND in the saddle.

Plain and Simple, all available evidence clearly shows that you can NOT achieve EXTRAordinary levels of success, withOUT a high level of competency in the saddle regarding the different physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual realms involved for you and your horses - in any given moment.

In fact, the professional horse industry is filled with bright, talented, would-be winners with great riding skills that FAIL; fail due to the lack of ability to "manage their emotions".

Self-awareness, self-knowledge, self-control, self-esteem or confidence, and/or an inability to understand all that is involved with building a trusting, empowering, mutually beneficial and productive relationship with yourself & your horse - is KEY.

Successful people in any sport learn and are masters at EI; managing their thoughts, feelings and emotions.

As an experienced coach and trainer, and someone that works on incorporating all this into my life as well; plus someone who has personally spent over 30 years in the saddle and working with clients just like you - I promise - this will be some of the most valuable personal and professional development information you may ever participate in...having to do with optimum performance! I can not close without giving you ONE more spin as an example of EI and what I'm talking about here...Tiger Woods. That man it seemed had it together, had everything, and there is no telling what kind of Performance Coaches he's been surrounded with his whole life. Yet what we know about Tiger Woods story has everything to do with "Emotional Intelligence". Granted this is an extreme example and a very visual example regarding the media...One area of your life (your thinking and thought processes) can NOT be extraordinary and another area of your life (your thinking and thought processes) - pure chaos - well not for long anyway.

Thinking and thought processes (EI) are KEY to success.

Introduction

My background is professional horse trainer through and through; as I've expanded my thinking and started leaning into what makes me happy - I've found that I love teaching "others" what professional horse trainers - do, think, and represent - in the saddle. Especially YOUTH and Non-PRO's! I've often said, "I create little baby horse trainers" because I specialize in working with youth and non-pro's. I can't say that though - right? Kids won't appreciate it the "baby" part??(smile).

I have also designed "train the trainer" programs supporting horse trainers and teaching them how I teach youth and non-pro's. I enhance a horse trainers ability (and desire) to teach humans what they know in the saddle. For the most part - including myself - horse trainers like and are comfortable in the saddle. Teaching others/clients is the "hard stuff". I make it easy...easier anyway.

I'm often asked by professional horse trainers - "Why would I allow you access to my clients?" And, the answer is "because you want them to be successful - to WIN!" I teach information and logistics (details in the saddle) that create a WINNING EDGE!

Old thinking is that trainers want to "hang on to" what they know - having something to do with job security or feeling that they want their clients to need them. With all the information available via CD, DVD and the internet and television - that is not the smartest of decisions these days. People want it and they'll get it - somewhere!

Give it all away - knowledgable clients aren't going to choose to work withOUT you - they'll choose to work with you because they are knowledgable!! Just because you take a college course doesn't mean you could be a professor and teach the program - right? You took the college course and learned yet you also learned "how much you didn't know".

The clients I work with also know and understand the dialogue needed to communicate with other professionals, it makes it easier for their trainer/professional to work with them - which is HUGE.

What I do know for sure is unless your covering (riding) hundreds of horses you'll not ever achieve the level of knowledge that a horse trainer has but when you apply the "System" I teach. You will have extreme success with the horses you do ride and a much improved understanding of how to work with a professional horse trainer (more bang for your buck) and they will have a higher report' with the student because of the aquired knowledge base.

In the horse business having someone you know, like and trust is a huge comfort - simply learning and growing in (and out) of the saddle brings great joy to the client (and to me / all of us really) - and there is PLENTY to go around so my moto is "release all information" - abundance is everywhere and in everything we do.

I have clients tell me all the time that they've ridden their whole life - but have learned more in my programs than all the years, clinics, etc. put together. It means a lot to me - it is my passion.

Why a Blog?

I love teaching what I've learned over the years about horses and humans and I'm pretty darn good at it - I guess because I love it so much. I tell everyone - if I won the lottery I'd teach for free (that and ride cutting horses). They say do what you love and I am.

I also love writing; I've been journaling for years for my clients - it is nice to have something in writing to take home following your intial program, save it and refer back to it. It helps clients remember the "ah ha" moments and regain focus in their daily exercise programs. It helps with clarity on what they might implement or what they might think about to figure out how to get the best end result in the saddle.

So why not put my teachings in writing for the public; those interested enough in looking at riding from the unique prospective of managing movement for ultimate results.

Really that is what you are doing when you ride - managing movement - managing let's say - 1200 lbs.

I'm surprised everyday at the people who "think" they can get results with horses in an event without a coach. What other sport offers that option?

Yet I'm also surprised at the trainers that ride horses and expect an owner/rider to be able to execute the details when they take the horse home - without giving them the details. What other sport offers that option?

It is an illusion to think you can send a horse to a trainer; "get it trained or fixed so to speak" go home and everything turn out well...

Truth is most trainers train horses because they love riding and training horses - when you add the fact - they have to teach humans or try to teach humans (clients) - that is a whole "other" ball game. Humans can be very challenging (self included).

Riding horses is about feet, shoulders, the ribcage (both sides) and hips for the most part - it is NOT about bits and bs. Pardon the French.

Now, there is something you should know about me...

Because I was on the road so much in my 20's and 30's I do not haul at all.

No loading the trailer, no hooking up the trailer, no running up and down the road with a trailer - been there - done that - and have zero interest.

I do however, coach clients at events all the time...I will also go watch the top-end competitions, too (well mostly I watch the warm up pen) because that is where I am reaffirmed that "riding right" is the KEY to success in the saddle.

Those guys and gals pay $3500 dollar entry fees and believe me they ride pretty right.

Please know that addressing the physical, mental and emotional side of horses and humans is vital to results oriented success!
